Betatron phase and coupling measurements at the Cornell Electron/Positron Storage Ring

چکیده
Errors in the lattice parameters of a storage ring can come from many sources. For example, the calibration constants used to set quadrupole magnets may be inaccurate, the orbit may pass through the sextupoles off center, or there may be unsuspected quadrupole fields associated with machine elements. To verify that a design lattice has actually been implemented correctly, one or more selected lattice functions must be measured around the ring to be compared with the expected values. At CESR, the Cornell Electron/Positron Storage Ring, exploiting the fact that the quadrupole magnets are individually controlled, one method that has been used is to measure the tune Q as a function of quadrupole strength k. The Twiss parameters bh and by at the quadrupole are then obtained from the standard formula [1]

CesrTA Low-Emittance Tuning - First Results∗
The Cornell Electron Storage Ring has been reconfigured as a test accelerator (CesrTA) for damping ring R&D for the International Linear Collider (ILC). As part of the research effort, low emittance tuning techniques are being developed with a goal of achieving a vertical emittance approaching that of the ILC damping rings. These techniques include gain mapping to characterize beam position mon...
متن کاملSingle Bunch Longitudinal Measurements of the Cornell Electron- Positron Storage Ring with the Superconducting RF Cavities
As part of the Phase III luminosity upgrade, the Cornell Electron-Positron Storage Ring (CESR) RF system has been upgraded from normal conducting (NRF) to superconducting (SRF) cavaties. The new superconducting cavities change the overall impedance of CESR and thus change the longitudinal bunch distribution. Measurements of the single bunch longitudinal distribution have been made using a strea...
متن کاملLattice Function Measurements in the Fermilab Accumulator Ring
The betatron phase advance between two points in a storage ring can be very accurately determined from a transverse beam transfer function measurement with DC beam. The phase advance can be determined from the difference in the phase response between an upper betatron sideband (N+Q line) and a lower betatron sideband (N-Q line) in an open loop network analyzer measurement between a kicker and a...
متن کاملEstimation of Betatron Coupling and Vertical Dispersion for Spring-8 Storage Ring
The betatron coupling is one of the most important parameters of storage rings for high brilliant light source. By the precise alignment of the magnets [1] and the proper COD correction [2], the SPring-8 storage ring succeeded in achieving the very small linear betatron coupling without skew quadrupole corrector magnets. To prove this fact, we study the betatron coupling of the SPring-8 storage...
متن کاملInvestigation of Chromaticity Sharing at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring
A potential advantage of the “Möbius” scheme, or any other strongly coupled lattice, is that the normal-mode oscillations are damped at rates which depend on both the horizontal and vertical chromaticities. This opens up the possibility of maintaining adequate damping even for quite negative chromaticity in one plane, provided the other is appropriately increased to compensate. This “chromatici...
